Gurriers| Fast-paced, abrasive post-punk with sharp political bite
Gurriers are one of the most exciting bands to come out of Dublin in recent years, blending fast-paced, abrasive post-punk with sharp political bite and an unmistakable sense of place.
Formed during lockdown and unable to play live for nearly two years, their debut show in 2022 sold out a 300-cap room in their hometown on the strength of just two DIY demos.
That early momentum hasn’t slowed. Their debut album Come and See pairs snarling guitars and propulsive rhythms with moments of uneasy calm, driven by Dan Hoff’s direct, pub-table political observations about power, anger and modern life.
It’s music that demands movement, but also attention.
Sonically and spiritually, Gurriers sit comfortably alongside bands that Boomtown audiences already know and love.
Fans of Viagra Boys, IDLES and Fontaines DC will find plenty to latch onto here. Just like those acts - many of whom have previously torn up Boomtown stages - Gurriers lean into authenticity over polish, proudly wearing their Irish accents, influences and convictions rather than smoothing them out for mass appeal.
What really sets Gurriers apart is how naturally their politics flow into their sound. Hoff’s lyrics aren’t slogan-heavy or preachy; they feel like overheard conversations, fuelled by frustration, curiosity and a desire to make sense of the world.
On stage, that translates into a chaotic, cathartic live experience that fits perfectly with Boomtown’s reputation for high-energy, socially aware guitar music. If you’ve found yourself deep in the crowd for bands like IDLES or Fontaines at the festival in past years, Gurriers are very much cut from the same cloth—raw, loud, and impossible to ignore.
If you like these guys, then make sure to check out Big Special, who you’ll also catch at Boomtown this year!
