We are so sorry to bring another round of heartbreaking news to you all and sadly it feels a bit like déjà vu, as almost exactly a year ago we had to break some identical bad news… Unfortunately, we will no longer be holding Boomtown Chapter One: The Gathering this year and it will now take place from 10th - 14th August 2022.
We have been doing everything within our power to try to find a solution to the mind-boggling conundrum of putting on a safe and well-run event to the sheer scale, complexity and intricate nature of Boomtown this summer. However, the time has simply run out for us to be able to proceed in a way that would live up to our high safety and production standards for the large scale event we had planned.
With less than four months to go until the event, and after almost half a year of collective campaigning to the government, sadly COVID specific cancellation insurance for events simply does not exist at this point in time. This means anyone putting on an event this year, will be doing so without the safety net of insurance to cover them should COVID prevent them from going ahead in any capacity. For an independent event as large and complex as Boomtown, this means a huge gamble into an 8-figure sum to lose if we were to venture much further forward, and then not be able to go ahead due to COVID.
Although we have recently been awarded a very generous grant from the Arts Council England, which we are incredibly grateful for and throws us a vital and necessary lifeline, the reality is it represents only a fraction of the costs (under 10%) involved in creating an event to the sheer scale and ambition of Boomtown, and only goes so far to plugging the deficit left from not being able to run our event, now for two years in a row, and most pressingly does not solve the problem of lack of insurance.
We had planned Chapter One: The Gathering with our values front and centre and the safety and comfort at the top of the agenda for all in attendance, those living in the local area, as well as those working on the event. However, it does not feel that at this critical point in time, we have enough of an understanding of what the conditions will be in order for us to safely operate, or the time left to be able to implement it all to put on the show we know we were all waiting for this summer.
All tickets for 2021 will automatically roll over to the 2022 event, and refunds will be available to those who wish. We are so grateful to everyone who has kept their ticket with us over the past year, you really did save the festival, and will continue to do so if you are able to roll them over for another year. We are truly devastated to not be able to all come together to celebrate in the way we’d all like to this summer, and we know how hard this will be for the thousands of you who have supported us and kept the faith that we could collectively reunite in the beautiful fields this year. The resale for all refunded 2021 tickets will go ahead as planned on 1st June, so if you weren’t able to get a ticket this year before we sold out, then this might be the golden opportunity to get your hands on a ticket to come and join us when we get to reset the clock to Chapter One and are all finally able to dance together once more in August 2022.

You have only just been awarded funding from the Cultural Recovery Fund why can’t you put the festival on?
We were very grateful to have been awarded a grant from the Arts Council England. This lifeline has enabled us to remain afloat during the uncertainty of 2021. Why do you need Government-backed insurance to run Boomtown?
Currently, COVID specific cancellation insurance does not exist. This means festivals like ours will be delivering events without the safety net of insurance to cover them should COVID prevent them from going ahead. For an independent event as large and complex as Boomtown, we could lose an 8 figure sum if we were to proceed now and face a last minute cancellation due to COVID.
Will Boomtown be planning on doing anything over the weekend that we can get involved with?
We’ve certainly got a few plans in the pipeline, but not solid enough to shout about as yet… watch this space, we’ll let you know.
Is my 2021 ticket valid for the 2022 event?
Yes, all current tickets will be rolled over and will be valid for the 2022 event.
Are the added extras, like wristbands for Camp Skylark, flushing toilets, coaches etc. carried over for 2022?
Yes, all added extras will be carried over to the 2022 event.
I purchased the Booking Protect option when I bought my ticket for 2021, will this roll over to 2022?
Yes, the Booking Protect will roll over with your ticket and be valid for 2022.
Is the resale for tickets still going ahead on the 1st June?
Yes, the resale will still go ahead on the 1st June. These tickets will now be rolled over and be valid for 2022.
Can I still register for the resale and get a ticket to the 2022 event?

Can I still sell my 2021 ticket to a friend for use in 2022?

How do I get a refund?
You can request a refund up to the 30th May 2021 via the online TicketSellers service. These are available on all tickets and can be requested by logging into your TicketSellers account, clicking on refunds and rollovers and selecting which tickets you’d like to refund.
What is the deadline for applying for a refund?
You can request a refund via your Ticket Sellers account up until the 30th May. After that date, please contact the TicketSellers directly via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0121 472 6688.
When will I receive my money from my refund?
All refunded tickets will be void from the deadline date of 30th May. Any ticket that you select for refund will be processed from mid-June onwards. Please note, refunds can take up to 28 days to process and funds can then take up to 5 days to land in your account.
Can I get a refund on my added extras (Camp Orchid, Camp Skylark, Accommodation, Phone Charging, Bike Ride etc.)?
Yes! You can choose any of the individual items you have purchased to refund.
I bought a public transport saver ticket, can I get a refund on just my travel ticket?
No, Public Transport Saver tickets are only valid when travelling by public transport so you cannot get a refund on individual components. If you are rolling over your entry ticket you will need to roll over the travel ticket with it. Or alternatively, you can request a refund on both your entry ticket AND travel ticket.
I purchased my travel directly from Nation Express (not through Ticket Sellers), what will happen to my booking?
National Express will be refunding all travel bookings made directly with them for Boomtown 2021. You will be able to book again later this year.
I have bought a discounted ticket for Local Residents. Can I get a refund on my ticket?
Yes, you can get a refund on your discounted Local Resident ticket. All you need to do is log into your account, click on refunds and rollovers and select which tickets you would like to refund. Will the Booking Protect fee be included in my refund?
No, the Booking Protect is non refundable. Please contact the TicketSellers for more information.
I have already requested a refund on my 2021 ticket but have now changed my mind?
Once you have applied for a refund your ticket is no longer valid and can not be repurchased for 2022. This ticket is now part of the general 2022 resale.
I have not received my refund?
All refunds are processed back to the original payment method. It can fail if the card details have changed over the course of time. If you think there has been a problem, please contact the Ticket Sellers directly, in June when refund are being processed via email at email@example.com or call 0121 472 6688 and they will be able to help you.
I have not paid my final instalment that is due later in May. Can I still pay that off in May?
Yes, just carry on as normal and when your payment is received your ticket will be valid for the 2022 event.
I have not paid my final instalment that is due in May. Can I apply for a refund?
Yes, you can request a refund by logging in to your TicketSellers account.
I have not paid my final instalment that is due in May. Can I pause my final payment and pay it off next year?
No. To secure your ticket for 2022 you must complete the payment deadlines associated with your 2021 ticket.
I have yet to pay my April Instalment fee. Is my ticket still valid?
No, the deadline has now passed to make a payment to secure your instalment ticket if you did not make the automatic payment.
My instalment ticket was cancelled. Can I now apply for a refund on the money I previously paid towards my ticket?
No, if your instalment ticket was previously cancelled you will not be able to receive a refund on any previous payment made. You can see more in the instalment plan terms and conditions here.
I was going to be volunteering! What happens to my deposit?
We will keep and roll over any current Volunteer applications for our 2022 event. You can request to cancel your application and receive a refund of your deposit if you are no longer interested in being a Boomtown Volunteer. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org
I am a Boomtown Ambassador! What happens to my rewards?
All rewards you have already earned this year will roll over and will be valid for the 2022 event.
I am a competition winner, will my ticket be rolled over?
