[IVY] vs [SAFYRE] debut show on HYDRO XL
[SAFYRE] is the bouncy, no-rules alter ego of [IVY]. This August, [IVY] vs [SAFYRE] makes her debut on HYDRO XL.
She has curated a playlist and we caught up with her about what's to come.
We’re very excited for a very special [IVY] vs [SAFYRE] set on HYDRO XL. Most Boomtown Citizens will be familiar with [IVY] but can you tell them a bit about who [SAFYRE] is?
"[SAFYRE] is the fun, bouncy, 4x4-driven side of [IVY], leaning into hard bounce, trance and neorave. Growing up in the techno and free party scene in France, I started it as a way to reconnect with those roots and explore the ideas that don’t quite belong in [IVY].
It’s the unfiltered, no-rules version of me where I can take risks, follow instinct, and see how far I can push things."
Boomtown will see two sides of you this year: [IVY] and [SAFYRE]. How do those projects diverge in energy, intention, or atmosphere live?
"While [IVY] is a mix of drum & bass and 4x4 (180bpm), [SAFYRE] focuses on hard bounce & euro trance (160bpm). Expect 2000s sing-a-long throwbacks and bouncy nostalgia from Saffy; then switch ups, double drops and pure euphoric chaos from [IVY].
This debut “VS” set will be a journey through hardbounce, neorave and 4x4 drum and bass."
This year’s theme at Boomtown is “Radical Redesign” is all about reimagining what’s possible. What does that idea look like in your world as an artist?
"For me, “Radical Redesign” is about breaking out of what’s expected. I’ve never approached DJing in a linear way - it’s less about sticking to one sound and more about creating moments that people don’t see coming. A lot of my sets are built around contrast - blending genres, switching energy, and taking risks that might not always be the obvious choice. It’s about finding that balance between pushing boundaries and still making something that people feel instantly."
