Cloak of Hope

Boomtown’s Cloak of Hope is a long-term project inspired by the Coat of Hopes - a garment sewn during the Camino de COP walk to Glasgow for the UN Climate Summit in 2021, growing patch by patch as communities along the route stitched their hopes into its fabric.

In 2023, Extinction Rebellion brought the tradition to Boomtown, creating a new garment where attendees sewed patches expressing their vision of a sustainable future - every stitch imbued with love, care, and hope. 

In 2024, Boomtown HQ deepened the tradition, adding its own patches to the Cloak in a craft afternoon where all involved in the planning of the festival were encouraged to get involved. 

In 2026, the Cloak travelled to Cornwall, where Kelli Kernow - the Cornwall Grove of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD) - added six patches drawn from Druidic wisdom: the hidden pentagram within the apple, the four elemental energies, the eternal dance of the Oak and Holly Kings, the Circle of Life and the Four Directions, the three types of magic - Questing, Making, and Changing - and the Western Mysteries, rooting spiritual practice in a living connection with the sacred natural world.

We’d now like to create a plan for the Cloak to reach even further, to every corner of the United Kingdom. So all are invited to share a vision for a better world.

The Cloak of Hope is growing and it needs your hands!

In 2024, hundreds of people stitched their hopes into fabric patches. Together, those patches became a living, collective vision.

But the Cloak is not finished. We are inviting you to stitch your hope into it...

Create a patch (ideally from recycled materials), between 10x10cm and 15x15cm. Fill in the form on the News section of our website and post it to:

Boomtown Festival, Mailbox 308, QDBC House, 67-83 Norfolk Street, Liverpool, L1 0BG.

Every patch will be documented and sewn onto the Cloak of Hope, which will be featured at Boomtown 2027.

Not ready to make one yet? You will have the chance to stitch yours at Boomtown Chapter Five: Radical Redesign this August.
