50% of the UK is currently experiencing drought conditions. Non-essential water use may be managed throughout the day to ensure essential supplies are maintained.
What we are doing
Our welfare, medical, and site teams are actively monitoring conditions and responding in real time. Sheltered space and dust suppression crews are deployed across the site.
Come prepared
Here are a few items you should bring:
- High SPF sun cream
- Hat
- Refillable water bottle
- Light, loose clothing
- Sunglasses
- Face covering or bandana
Look after each other
If someone looks unwell - confused, sweating, dizzy, or unresponsive - get help immediately.
Flag any steward or call the on-site medical team. Do not wait.
Fire Risk
No open flames.
No disposable barbecues.
No camping stoves.
Smokers must use Pocket Ashtrays. These are available from all info and welfare points.
The site is dry grassland, and the consequences are serious.
Dust
Dry conditions on the Matterley Estate chalk and grassland generate significant dust, especially near roads and high-traffic areas. Our teams are actively suppressing it with water bowsers, but a bandana or face covering is a must.
If you are asthmatic, carry your inhaler at all times.
Find shade
Covered venues, shaded rest zones, and sheltered areas are spread across the city. You are never far from somewhere cool.
Use the hottest hours of the day to rest, eat, and recover.
Drink water
Keep drinking water. Free water points are located across the site. Use them. Carry a refillable bottle at all times. If you feel thirsty, you are already behind.
Extreme Heat
Hot weather is forecast. The site is dry chalk and grassland with limited natural shade. Here is what to do and what we are doing.
