[20 Years of DEEP MEDi] Mala

Born and raised in South Norwood, London, Mala is a pioneering force in UK electronic music and a foundational architect of dubstep. As a founding member of DMZ, he helped define a sound that reshaped global bass music, rooted in dub, reggae and South London’s underground culture. Nearly two decades on, his influence remains unmistakable, both through his productions and his landmark label Deep Medi Musik, which has championed some of the scene’s most important artists. Known for deep, meditative basslines and forward-thinking compositions, Mala continues to push boundaries through collaborations, live performances and genre-spanning projects, while staying true to the spiritual core of sound system culture.
