Grace “Spice” Hamilton – The Queen of Dancehall

Born and bred in the vibrant community of Old Braeton in Portmore, Jamaica, Grace “Spice” Hamilton has carved out her place as a fearless force and undisputed Queen of Dancehall. A proud graduate of St. Catherine High and the prestigious Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Spice combined street-smart charisma with formal training to create a persona as powerful as her music.

Her journey to stardom began with a fiery debut at Sting in 2000, where she held her own—and then some—in lyrical clashes against some of the fiercest male and female artists in the game. From that moment, it was clear: Spice wasn’t just here to play—she was here to rule.

In 2009, she made her first mark on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with the steamy hit “Ramping Shop,” a collaboration that spent an impressive 15 weeks on the charts and brought Dancehall back into the international spotlight.

She continued to break barriers with her 2016 single “Nasty” featuring Kid Ink and Jeremih, which lit up multiple Billboard charts—including Rhythmic Airplay, Hip-Hop & R&B, and Rap Digital Song Sales—holding strong for 10 weeks.

But it was 2018 that cemented her place in history. Her fiery EP “Captured” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart—making her the first Jamaican female Dancehall artist since 1996 to earn that spot. The project also landed at No. 9 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, introducing her raw, unfiltered sound to a whole new audience.

Spice isn’t just a chart-topper—she’s a digital pioneer. In 2018, she became the first Dancehall artist to hit 1 million followers on Instagram, and the first Jamaican female artist to surpass 100 million views on YouTube, proving that her influence goes far beyond the stage.

With her unmatched energy, unapologetic lyrics, and unwavering pride in her roots, Spice has redefined what it means to be a woman in Dancehall—and she’s only getting started.
