Respect

Respect

Respect Yourself, Each Other and The Planet...

What is ‘Respect’ all about?

The ‘Respect’ elements of our six pillars of Boomtown have evolved from our overarching Respect Campaign that we initially launched in 2017. The original campaign was all about us, as festival organisers, implementing specific services, facilities and mindsets to ensure the audience all felt respected from our side, and with the intention this in turn would have a knock on to how people treated themselves, each other, and the festival environment.

As part of 2021rest the Respect elements have been incorporated into the six foundation Pillars of Boomtown and our overall vision:

Vision: A living theatre that ignites imagination and inspires the emergence of a better world through respect, connection, creativity and celebration.

The Six Pillars of Boomtown:

Respect Yourself: In a world that can make us doubt our own worth, we want to provide a space for self-empowerment and freedom of expression.

Respect Each Other: In a world that is deeply scarred by the open wounds of racism and prejudice, we want people of all backgrounds, beliefs, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities and races to know that you belong and are safe in our city.

Respect the Planet: In a world that is burning, we call on our collective humanity to come together to find solutions and care for nature, as she cares for us.

Creativity: In a world where conformity is valued over creativity, we want to provide a platform that nurtures artistic freedom and pushes the boundaries of creative expression.

Connection: In a world where digital connection so often replaces physical connection, we cherish the depth of togetherness that comes from the gatherings of humans.

Celebration: In a world that can so often feel overloaded with negativity, we want to celebrate the very best this beautiful planet and all humanity can achieve, in one almighty party where everyone’s welcome!

Respect Yourself:

Respect Yourself: In a world that can make us doubt our own worth, we want to provide a space for self-empowerment and freedom of expression

Sometimes we can be our own harshest critics and forget to be kind to our bodies and minds. At Boomtown you will find a space for self discovery and expression, to free yourself from the constraints of everyday life, switch off from screens and just truly be you.

There’s also spaces for reflection, self care and nourishment for the mind and soul. Not forgetting the ultimate release of inner happiness that comes from dancing until your feet are throbbing and the sweat is dripping!

Respect Each Other:

Respect Each Other: In a world that is deeply scarred by the open wounds of racism and prejudice, we want people of all backgrounds, beliefs, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities and races to know that you belong and are safe in our city.

The Boomtown world aims to represent the very best that humanity can bring, modern society feels so divided and filled with negativity at times, but we want our world to be all about respect, connection and celcebration.

We will be working hard behind the scenes this year to ensure that as a company and a festival we make huge strides towards genuine and authentic representation, diversity and equality across every part of what we do.

We also will embed our zero tolerance policy towards prejudicial and disrespectful behaviour and language across our social channels ahead of the festival.

Respect the Planet:

Respect the Planet: In a world that is burning, we call on our collective humanity to come together to find solutions and care for nature, as she cares for us.

It’s a well known and devastating fact that we, as a human race, are not looking after our beautiful planet in the way we should be. Although it can sometimes feel incredibly overwhelming and often leave us all feeling a bit helpless. We really want our little world to help find the solutions, and show what can happen when we pull together and the impacts we can individually, and collectively make, are powerfully positive.

After the 2019 event everyone at Boomtown collectively managed to plant 71,725 trees.  Those trees are spread across 10 tropical regions of the planet where trees grow faster and sequester up to 9 times more carbon than temperate trees. From Brazil to West Papua, these trees not only restore precious ecosystems but also change the lives of local people and provide much needed habitat for some of the most endangered species in the world.

For 2021 we will be building on our Green Mission and implementing even more elements into our sustainability processes to reduce the impact of the event and help everyone in attendance look after the festival and the planet.
