The once peaceful township was now a sprawling metropolis! The Mayor struggled to contain and control the new barrios and districts that erupted seemingly at random around the city. And all the time the strange Spider like machine watched down over it all, occasionally blasting flames and hissing steam, and none felt more watched than the Mayor himself. He would need their help if he was to fulfil his obligations to them.
Citizens were called to the town centre and The Mayor announced the declaration of a democracy, that there would be free elections and district councillors would be appointed, the following year even his office would be subject to the vote and will of the people he said, a new age was dawning, a time of prosperity and plenty for all was promised solemnly!
It seemed almost as if by magic the tide turned, industry and commerce were everywhere, productivity boomed, Chinatown market was awash with new media technology, televisions lit up the windows of Barrio Loco, music blared out of the saloons of the Wild West and taverns of OldTown, bright lights flashed and dazzled on Mayfair Avenue and all the time containers and cargo slipped silently ever onwards towards the dirty backstreets of DSTRKT 5.
