Our once very small town used to be made up of 3 main areas; the Town Centre’s ska and punk stage, the gypsy circus which evolved into Oldtown and the reggae, dub vibes that founded our Lion’s Den.
As the festival grew, so did our scope of musical genres and now, as we mark 10 years of the annual Summer fair, bands and DJ’s fly in from every corner of the globe to help us cater for pretty much every style of music possible...
We book artists who make incredible music for all the right reasons; the artists that delight and surprise, educate and inspire, those who take the audience on a journey - our focus has never been and will never be based on booking acts to sell tickets. To all those who walk through our city gates it’s clear that our budgets, creative energy and collective vision is channelled into an immersive experience curated through site design and theatrics, which is why we want people to be a part of Boomtown and what started us on this journey in the first place.
After last years festival we witnessed some pretty unnecessary negativity around what acts people wanted to see booked, not only directed at us but at each other, which is not what we set this community up for. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, suggestion or friendly debate (for all the super passionate musos out there) but it’s important to respect each other, always. Aggressive attitudes and mindsets will never be accepted at Boomtown, we are a family.
If you’re joining us this summer, for the first time or the tenth, we welcome you with open arms and respect to be reciprocated towards each other, the city and yourselves. Open minds feed open hearts.
With love xx
