Not so long ago, in the middle of each community, lay a cross between an emergency exit and a life raft. Cathedrals of the mind; hospitals of the soul; theme parks of the imagination - these were the sheltered public spaces where you were not a consumer but a citizen instead. Here the paper is free to borrow - you won't be able to trade it for fame and fortune, but you may acquire a different kind of power. Indeed the very existence of libraries affords the best evidence that we may yet have hope for the future of man - for what can be found here has undone dictators and tyrants. Get cosy and delve into ancient alchemy but stay away from the restricted section - those books are BANNED. There will always be a librarian about to keep things in order, prevent book burnings and to instruct visitors on how to use the dewey-decimal system, whilst attempting to maintain a reasonable noise level for the scholars that said; imaginings of the word silent have become quite farcical at this establishment. Browse at your leisure but to take out books, you'll need a pass, it's called a library card. Speak to the librarian and see if you can get your hands on one... literally. The library closes at 7pm. There is a late returns slot located to the left of the building. Please keep children off the top shelf.
