Mamilah originated in Leeds in early 2017 amongst a group of friends from all corners of the UK and Ireland. Bonded by the misused umbrella term ‘neo-soul’ for much modern R&B and Soul they set out on a mission to exude a more soulful flame-inspired by the likes of Aretha Franklin Stevie Wonder and Charles Bradley. Since their humble beginnings playing locally in Leeds they have expanded to playing Leeds biggest venues such as The Brudenell Social Club Belgrave Music Hall and The Wardrobe. They have also been busy touring around the UK playing alongside Leeds bands Necktr and Tetes De Pois as well as KOKOROKO Children of Zeus Franz Von Agbeko and Dat Brass. 2019 saw them play Manchester Jazz Festival and Long Division Festival as well as dates around the UK. Their debut single ’Sundrips’ was released in February 2018 and was quickly followed by the debut EP ‘Moonlight Walking’ in August 2018 which has received acclaim from the likes of Alan Raw (BBC Introducing West Yorkshire) John Kane (BBC Leeds) and Bandcamp Daily.
