Jamz Supernova

Barrio Loco

As one of the leading next generation DJ's in the UK, JAMZ SUPERNOVA has passion for her craft in abundance.

The 25 year old from South East London is of mixed heritage, with Jamaican, Irish and Cuban influences. She was surrounded by music from birth, with her parents love of the 90's New Jack Swing era leaving an indelible mark on her.

"I wanted to learn how to DJ as the intricacies have always fascinated me", Jamz says. "I'm also a massive party girl and now I get to help create the party and set the right mood"

Her skill of being able to select the right tracks - not just the most popular tracks but ones that can make a difference - was quickly discovered by community London radio station Reprezent, who offered her a show.

BBC Radio 1Xtra provided the next platform for Jamz, when she was asked to be part of their development program, ‘Xtra Talent’, and it wasn’t long before the BBC took the unprecedented bold step of offering Jamz three regular shows on the network, alongside inviting her to deputise for Toddla T and Benji B on sister station BBC Radio 1, Europe's largest youth radio station.

Through hosting three weekly shows on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Jamz has the privilege and platform to pioneer and showcase new talent across the future RnB, future hip hop and future beats spectrum. Jamz’ input into the ‘future RnB’ scene over the past 2 years has been instrumental in it’s growth and success in the UK, which is now going from strength to strength, Jamz having recently featured top calibre talent Ray Blk, Nao, Mura Masa, Bryson Tiller, Clams Casino, and SG Lewis on the show.

Taking the initiative and creating your own destiny is paramount to Jamz’s beliefs, and is the inspiration behind her well-known weekend radio feature ‘DIY Generation’.

“DIY Generation allows me to put a spotlight on some of the most amazing innovative creative young people in the country, who have had an idea and decided to make it happen themselves”.  With support from the likes of Complex UK Editor Joseph Patterson, grime photographer Vicky Grout, and well respected author and journalist Hattie Collins to name a few, Jamz has been able to regularly convey these success stories in a tangible real way so the younger generation can benefit and be motivated by people they can relate to.

Jamz Supernova has steadily carved a reputation through her radio and DJ work as having an outstanding ear for new tracks and nurturing talent, for which her own bi-monthly club residency “Future Bounce” has become the go-to spot, featuring the cream of under-the-radar talent alongside underground heavyweights such as Ozzie, Joe Hertz, Brasstracks, Sh?m, Wize and Gravez.

Her decision to champion her own unique blend of Trap, Bass, House & Alternative R&B to the UK has resulted in Jamz performing at a variety of prestigious venues and events across the country, including The V&A & Tate Museum, London's Sketch, as well as fashion events for Lee Cooper, G-Star, Oxjam, Lacoste Live, CAT’s Camilla Walala Collection Launch and H&M Pop Up store. Her hard work hasn't gone unnoticed – with Jack Garrett, RAYE, Sam Gellaitry, Dornik, Mykki Blanco, Mick Jenkins, Little Simz and DJ Semtex all inviting Jamz to warm up for them on various shows.

Since making her festival debut at Bestival in 2014 Jamz hasn’t stood still, this year alone gracing the stages at The Great Escape, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Lovebox, Glastonbury, Bestival, Notting Hill Carnival, Strawberries & Creem and Love Saves The Day. She is no stranger to the European market with regular slots away including Berlin, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Ibiza.

In 2016 Jamz launched her own women in music networking group. FLEXX meets quarterly and was founded alongside her good friend and industry plugger Amy Collins, aimed at connecting women in music in an informal and friendly setting. “We came up with Flexx as we realized whilst there are so many schemes & events for women trying to get into the industry, there isn't much support for women who already are!”

With all bases firmly covered, and yet constantly striving for more, JAMZ SUPERNOVA is the voice to watch on new forward thinking music from around the world.
