Founded by Gabriel Myddelton in 2003, The Heatwave started life as a monthly club night before morphing into a multi-armed musical machinePlaying every week around the UK, Europe and beyond, The Heatwave's hyped up DJ sets are guaranteed to get any crowd of people down and dirty. Host MC Rubi Dan calls it the bashment workout, but it's much more fun than hitting the gym!Heatwave residencies include a fortnightly radio show on London's number one pirate station, Rinse FM and the weekly dancehall night Hot Wuk at Big Chill House. They are regulars at clubs like Fabric, Bar Rumba and Cargo and at festivals liek Secret Garden Party, Big Chill and Bestival.
The Heatwave's debut production, the Piano riddim, hit the streets in 2008 featuring vocals from Warrior Queen, Riko and Rubi Dan.
New riddims featuring the likes of YT, Natalie Storm and Serocee are due for release in 2009 along with remixes for Jammer & Badness, Mavado and Horace Andy.
The Heatwave conceived and curated the critically acclaimed compilation An England Story, which came out on Soul Jazz Records in 2008. The double album traces the development of Jamaican-influenced MCing in the UK, covering dancehall, jungle, hip hop, garage and grime.
The Heatwave blog is known as a reliable source of up to the time music and good writing, and Gabriel Heatwave is a regular contributor to magazines such as FACT, Shook, Its Alot and Woofah.
